Our Field Trip to Montpelier

Check out our recent trip to the home of Founding Father, author of the Constitution, 4th President, etc. etc. etc.: JAMES MADISON

This last Saturday I was invited out to the grounds of Montpelier, Virginia by the fine folks at The Center for the Constitution (shout out Adam, Katie, and Patrick for their hospitality). Montpelier is the home of our 4th president, architect of the Constitution, and Founding Father, James Madison. The beautiful plot of land is about a two hour drive from Washington D.C., depending on traffic and caffeine levels.

I immediately said yes. History comes alive when you get to live, see, and walk throughout it yourself. Civics isn’t just learning the system—it’s learning how and why that system came to be. If you know the past, you’re better able to change the future.

I believe this so deeply I made Montpelier welcome my entire family AND the family of our great friends out here in DC. Kids ranging from 3 to 7 years spent the morning soaking up the sights and sounds of our shared history.

Below are just a few of our photos from our Montpelier field trip.
