Welcome to Defense Week!

Checks and Balances: what are they and who has them?
2

One of the first things we’re taught about our government is that we live in a system of checks and balances. It’s true; we do. And it’s genius.

But, are we sure that we know exactly what those checks and balances are? What are the actual mechanisms that keep any one person, branch, or level of government from gaining too much power? That’s what this week is all about.

So this week—Defense Week—devotes a day to breaking down the checks and balances within each of our three branches of government. To get your mind right, here’s the schedule.

  • Tuesday: Legislative Branch

  • Wednesday: Executive Branch

  • Thursday: Judicial Branch

By Friday, our civics defense will be on point for all of us. And defense wins championships.
